Christine Cabot has shared her thoughts on the “Coldplay kiss cam” incident that impacted her career. The former Chief Human Resources Officer at Astronomer explained that her close working relationship with Andy Byron, the company’s CEO, stemmed from a professional environment where sharing a workspace and socializing outside of work was normal.
In light of widespread speculation about an affair, Cabot clarified that she was already separated from her husband at that time, who was aware of her close dealings with Byron. Interestingly, her daughter mentioned that her estranged husband was also at the same Coldplay concert where the kiss cam incident took place.
“My daughter says, ‘It’s so much fun! It’s amazing!’” Cabot recounted, noting she pondered if it would be awkward if her husband saw her with Byron. She recalled that, in a way, her anxiety faded when she realized there were thousands of people at the concert, so encountering her husband was improbable anyway. “But it didn’t matter,” she added. “He knows how closely I work with Andy. We’ve had social lunches and drinks, and that was acceptable.”
At the concert, Byron and Cabot were caught on the kiss cam, which led to playful remarks from Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin. The moment went viral, stirring up a lot of buzz and assumptions about their relationship. Cabot reacted by shielding her face, while Byron quickly ducked out of view. Martin jokingly commented on their interaction, stating, “Either they’re cheating or they’re just really shy.”
Following the viral video, both Cabot and Byron faced scrutiny. It was revealed that she was living separately from her husband, and soon after, Cabot filed for divorce. Astronomer later released a statement emphasizing its commitment to workplace values, announcing an investigation into the situation.
By July 20, the company announced that Byron had resigned, while Cabot left her role shortly afterward, marking a dramatic turn of events for both. This kiss cam controversy even drew the attention of Gwyneth Paltrow, who humorously referred to the incident in a commercial promoting Astronomer. It’s definitely been a whirlwind for everyone involved.
