Democrats Observing Republicans
It seems some Democrats are realizing that adapting is essential for political survival. Recently, a few have adopted a rather curious approach, studying the strategies of their Republican counterparts. They’re not just watching from a distance; they’re diving deeper, asking questions like, “What actually works?”
An answer that consistently surfaces is the use of biblical quotations.
It’s almost enlightening, isn’t it? Candidates bring up the Bible, and their audience reacts positively. Some campaign strategists think, “Well, let’s get someone to do this.”
Take James Talarico, the Democratic Senate candidate from Texas, who seems to be quoting scripture at every turn.
This strategy can resonate with voters who appreciate hearing biblical texts, even if those verses are somewhat misapplied to endorse ideas that the Bible would actually condemn. Those familiar with scripture might quickly pick up on this shift.
There’s a cautionary note worth considering: Jesus warned about false prophets saying, “They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” It’s important to reflect on the context in which these verses are invoked.
But one has to ask: what is the motive behind using that particular verse?
Debate on Abortion
Talarico cites Genesis 2:7 to argue that human life only deserves protection from the moment of first breath.
That interpretation seems off the mark. The verse speaks about God breathing life into Adam, which was a unique act of creation, not a standard for human development in the womb.
In truth, human life begins at conception, when a distinct organism is formed with its own DNA and developmental path. The Bible considers the unborn as living beings — Psalm 139:13-16 mentions God’s role in creating a child in the womb.
Even if one were to entertain Talarico’s “first breath” argument, it can lead to morally questionable conclusions. This line of thinking could push the notion of abortion all the way up to the moment of birth. While some activists may accept this perspective, many others feel that ending the life of a fully developed child just before birth is equivalent to doing so shortly after. Both acts are essentially the same, they believe.
The Notion of a “Non-binary God”
Talarico also suggests that God is “non-binary,” assuming that would address current LGBTQ issues.
However, the nature of God is transcendent and doesn’t fit into human notions of gender. The Bible makes it clear that God made humanity male and female, as noted in Genesis 1:27. This concept is reiterated by Jesus, who affirmed the male-female distinction in discussions about marriage.
Christian teachings on marriage are not arbitrary; they stem from the design of creation itself, and Jesus confirmed this understanding.
Rainbow Flag vs. Ten Commandments
In a discussion, Talarico poses a question about why a rainbow flag in a classroom is seen as indoctrination, while the Ten Commandments are not viewed in the same way.
The answer appears straightforward. The Ten Commandments represent foundational moral principles about God, life, and justice, which have shaped the ethical framework of Western civilization over centuries.
In contrast, the rainbow flag symbolizes a moral stance that diverges from the biblical view on sex, marriage, and human nature. Clearly, the messages these symbols convey belong to different moral realms.
Evaluating True Teachings
Jesus offered a simple guideline for discerning false teachers: look at their fruits.
When scripture is used to justify actions like abortion or to refute the natural order regarding gender, there are real consequences. The Apostle Peter cautioned against twisting the scriptures, noting that it can lead to one’s destruction.
Simply being able to quote the Bible does not validate a message — even Satan quoted scripture.
The real inquiry should be whether the Bible is being quoted with fidelity or used as a weapon to validate popular yet troubling behaviors.
Stay Vigilant
Christians ought to remain alert. Remember, just because someone invokes the language of faith, it doesn’t necessarily indicate they’re speaking the truth.
Be familiar with God’s word and measure what you hear against it. Teach your children to do the same.
Even if a wolf shows up disguised as a sheep and holding a Bible, knowing God’s truth will help you see through the facade.
