Texas Airports Facing Frustrations Amid Security Delays

If you’ve flown out of a Texas airport recently, you might have encountered long security lines, delayed flights, and increased frustration. It seems Texans are not alone in feeling this way. Travelers across the nation are understandably upset, especially as spring break approaches.

So, what’s causing the hassle? Well, there’s been a refusal from Democrats in Washington to defund the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration. This has led to chaos at departure gates, especially impacting tourists first.

As the shutdown continues, many TSA employees are either taking leave or resigning in search of more stable job opportunities. This only worsens the staffing shortages and increases delays.

This marks the third funding shortfall in just six months. Instead of fulfilling their roles, Democrats seem to be using DHS as a pawn in their political strategy against President Trump, further delaying the tasks Americans elected him to manage.

The consequences of this are becoming evident quickly. A staggering 95% of TSA personnel are currently working without pay. To manage basic expenses, many are taking on side jobs. Simultaneously, the TSA has reduced its workforce, resulting in longer lines despite the persistent need for thorough security checks.

In Texas, reports indicate wait times have hit three hours at some airports in the past week. This has real repercussions: lost time, missed flights, and families being stranded, all because Congress cannot pass crucial funding legislation.

This turmoil could potentially resolve overnight if Congress decides to fund the government and allow DHS to resume operations. However, it seems Democrats are opting for chaos, potentially jeopardizing national security in their efforts to obstruct President Trump’s plans to strengthen border security and address illegal immigration.

TSA officers are no strangers to these challenges. During the 43-day government shutdown in 2025, some workers even found themselves sleeping in their cars. As this closure extends, an increasing number of employees are taking leave or quitting, further intensifying staffing shortages and delays.

It’s not just the TSA that’s feeling the strain. The Coast Guard, part of DHS, has over 7,000 employees currently unpaid, with around 3,000 on furlough. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has furloughed approximately 65% of its staff. Moreover, FEMA is facing difficulties as disaster relief funds dwindle, threatening its capacity to aid state and local recovery operations.

This shutdown impacts the American public, undermines national security, and hampers the effectiveness of those tasked with safeguarding the nation.

President Trump and the Republican Party won the 2024 election with a clear agenda. Officials within DHS are striving to implement that agenda. Congress should refrain from obstructing their efforts.

It’s essential that Democrats cease using national security as leverage and prioritize funding for DHS. Failing to do so would be a disservice to the American populace.
