Exciting Primary Day for Democrats
Tuesday promises to be an intriguing day for conservatives who relish watching Democrats clash internally.
Voters in the Chicago area are gearing up to participate in the Democratic primary for the 9th Congressional District. This race appears to be a culmination of a showdown between two candidates, reflecting a deeper divide within two factions of the Democratic Party’s left wing.
One contender is Kat Abu Ghazaleh, an anti-Israel TikTok influencer with Palestinian-American roots. Her campaign, largely based on social media, aims to mobilize young voters. There’s quite a backstory here; an incident in September 2025 saw her arrested during a protest by ICE officers, an event that quickly went viral, winning her praise from young progressives but possibly leaving some older voters scratching their heads.
On the opposing side is Daniel Biss, the mayor of Evanston and a Jewish American whose grandparents were Holocaust survivors. He may come off as the more understated choice, but his campaign site outlines a robustly liberal agenda. Recently, he faced pressures from the left concerning a fake scandal labeled as “MeToo,” though it’s unclear how much impact this will have outside digital communities. Interestingly, he and Abu Ghazaleh were seen sharing drinks post-debate, leading to varied interpretations of their camaraderie, which honestly strikes me as a bit odd.
Polling data suggests Biss remains the frontrunner, though Abu Ghazaleh is reportedly closing the gap, raising the stakes even higher.
Behind the scenes, a bit of a support battle is unfolding among usually allied liberals. Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib threw their endorsement behind Abu Ghazaleh in the campaign’s final stretch, with Tlaib describing her as a young Palestinian woman embodying the principled leadership the nation requires.
Abu Ghazaleh also secured backing from Congressman Ro Khanna and several leftist grassroots groups. Meanwhile, Biss garnered support from high-profile Democrats including Senator Elizabeth Warren and members of the “Squad,” reflecting a blend of establishment and progressive backing.
As funding for both sides pours in from various sources, this primary season has turned contentious. Post-election discussions are likely to revolve around who performed better, who was misled, and the usual debates about external influences.
