Nicolas Kidman’s Oscar Preparation Includes Church Visits

Nicole Kidman, one of Hollywood’s most recognized actresses, shared how she prepares for the Oscars. Interestingly, her method involves something many Americans do: attending church.

In a recent interview with Variety, she revealed her routine ahead of the big event, even though she wasn’t nominated this year. Kidman was set to present at the Oscars, which aired on Sunday night.

“It’s crazy, but I go to church in the morning,” she mentioned during a pre-Oscar dinner at the Beverly Hills Hotel. She added, “We narrow it down… It just centers me. That’s what I do on Sundays.”

Kidman, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2003, has also received four additional nominations. While many of her roles target adult audiences, she has appeared in family-friendly films like Paddington, Happy Feet, and Aquaman.

Her church routine seems to resonate with a broader audience. According to a 2024 survey, about 30% of Americans say they attend religious services weekly or almost weekly, and another 11% go nearly monthly. Interestingly, only a third of Americans report that they never go to church.

Kidman has openly discussed her faith and upbringing in previous interviews. She once stated, “I’m spiritual in the sense that I absolutely believe in God,” expressing a previous interest in becoming a nun, which she ultimately decided against.

Reflecting on her childhood, she noted its continued influence on her life. “A lot of my friends make fun of me,” she commented in a 2019 interview regarding her strong beliefs. She noted her husband, Keith Urban, has his own beliefs, but they are raising their children with a sense of faith. Her upbringing, particularly with a devout Catholic grandmother, played a significant role. “I wouldn’t say I’m an absolutist, but I always have questions,” she explained, highlighting her father’s emphasis on tolerance.
