Jack Hughes Seeks to Retrieve His Olympic Gold Goal Puck

Jack Hughes, the U.S. hockey star, has expressed a strong desire to reclaim the puck he scored with during the Olympic gold medal game, which is currently on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame. It’s referred to as “The Bulls” by the museum.

Hughes’ goal, which led to a victory for the U.S. men’s hockey team, is part of an exhibit that includes significant items from other U.S. athletes, like Megan Keller’s scoring puck from an earlier match in Milan.

“I’m trying to get it. It’s a bull. I mean, I don’t really see why the Hockey Hall of Fame should keep it,” he shared in a conversation with ESPN on Tuesday.

He further remarked, “I don’t think Megan Keller or I should be without that puck.”

Both pucks are featured in the “Olympic 26” exhibit, which also showcases Hilary Knight’s Team USA jersey and Brady Tkachuk’s stick from the Winter Olympics.

Hughes scored the decisive overtime goal that gave the U.S. its first men’s hockey gold since the 1980 Lake Placid games.

Jamie Dinsmore, the Hall’s President and CEO, noted that these artifacts capture significant moments on an international scale, telling stories of national pride and the essence of hockey. “The Olympic ’26 exhibit is designed to preserve these unforgettable moments for visitors from around the globe,” he stated.

While Hughes hasn’t actively pursued a career in the Hall of Fame yet, he remains confident that he’ll get there eventually.

Interestingly, his motivation for wanting the puck back isn’t just personal; he has a deep intention for his father, Jim. “He would have a special place in his heart for it,” Hughes mentioned.

“I really think he would love it and would want to get it,” he added, emphasizing his father’s passion for collecting memorabilia.

Reflecting on his early career, Hughes noted, “I don’t usually keep many things for myself, but my dad is hardcore about collecting for all of us. I believe there’s a special place for him in this.”
