Former Iranian wrestler speaks out against suppressing female athletes on transgender matters.

Sardar Pashaei, a former Iranian wrestling champion, is observing serious issues affecting female athletes both in Iran and the United States. He has seen severe punishments, like flogging, enforced on women in Iran for not wearing a hijab. Now, he’s concerned about allegations of silencing American female athletes who speak up about the inclusion of biological male trans athletes in women’s sports.

Pashaei expressed his discontent over instances where athletes feel they must stay silent about perceived injustices. He stated, “It’s not acceptable to hear that people become silent when they think something is unfair to them.” He believes that athletes invest significant energy and discipline to reach their goals, such as becoming world or Olympic champions, and that there should be equality and an environment where everyone can voice their concerns.

He also urged the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ensure the women’s divisions are protected and that a fair playing field is created based on scientific standards. “It’s complicated, but I think all athletes deserve a fair game,” he added.

A recent survey by Center Square Voter Voices indicated that 68% of registered voters support state bans on transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. This poll included responses from 2,659 participants, consisting of 952 Republicans, 934 Democrats, and 773 independents. Results showed that 88% of Republican voters favor such bans, while only 49% of Democrats agreed.
