Parents outraged after adult undocumented immigrant reportedly assaulted Virginia high school girls

Israel Flores Ortiz, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, was smuggled into the United States in 2024. He was later released by the Biden administration and is now facing accusations of sexually abusing at least nine female students at Fairfax High School in Virginia, where he was in the 11th grade. Interestingly, these students were all over 18 years old.

To make matters worse, it appears that the school may have tried to downplay the scandal.

“They tried to cover it up,” someone commented.

The alleged incidents occurred on February 25th, leading to Flores Ortiz’s arrest on March 7. He has been charged with nine counts of assault and battery.

According to one victim’s mother, “There is a group of about 12 people reporting this assault.” She explained to WJLA-TV that one individual, who was unknown to the girls, would approach them from behind and inappropriately touch them. This wasn’t limited to just light contact; it was genital groping and had been going on for several months.

Two mothers of the victims criticized the school’s response. “It’s terrible, it’s terrible,” one mother expressed. “I think Fairfax County was trying to mitigate what happened to these girls from the beginning.”

Principal Georgina Aye allegedly waited over two weeks to inform parents via email that a student had been arrested for a touching incident at school. The email referred to “a student touching a student’s buttocks while moving in the hallway,” which parents found to be a major understatement.

One mother reacted by saying, “Yeah, no, I’m not here to spank you.” She believed this was a clear violation and stressed that the offender had made direct, inappropriate contact with her daughter.

Another mother added that the girls faced harassment and bullying from classmates, some of whom they had once considered friends. The school’s letters downplayed the incidents, giving rise to rumors that the girls were just seeking attention.

One parent commented, “They tried to cover it up,” reiterating the disbelief and anger felt by many.

The Fairfax City Board of Education addressed the situation, stating that they take the matter seriously. The board expressed support for the affected students, emphasizing that inappropriate conduct has no place in their school. They also showed confidence in Principal Georgina Aye, describing her as a dedicated leader.

Despite receiving what one victim’s mother called a “perfectly sanitized letter,” parents learned that Flores Ortiz might return to school upon his release. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) stated they were unable to comment on specifics due to privacy laws but assured safety as a priority and vowed to investigate reported incidents thoroughly.

ICE has issued a detainer for Ortiz to prevent him from claiming more victims, as explained by authorities. He remains in custody while a bail request was denied following a review of surveillance footage from one of the incidents.

DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Biss denounced the situation, noting the failures of current immigration policies and calling on local officials to reconsider their stance regarding undocumented individuals.

Overall, this unsettling case raises many questions about school safety, community support, and the effectiveness of current immigration policies.
