The situation with Giannis Antetokounmpo remains complicated, as reports indicate that the Bucks are considering shutting him down for the remainder of the season. However, Antetokounmpo himself is not keen on going along with that plan.
At 31, Antetokounmpo has dealt with various injuries throughout this season, notably affecting his calf, groin, knee, and ankle. Currently, he’s healing from a left knee injury acquired during a recent game against the Pacers.
The Bucks organization had discussions with him several times in the last day about the possibility of sidestepping the rest of the season, yet he insisted on wanting to play again unless there were significant concerns about further injury risks.
Reports indicate that he will be out for at least a week due to a hyperextension and bone bruise in his knee.
This season, he has already missed 32 games. The team emphasized that his absence might serve the best interests of both him and the franchise.
As of Wednesday, the Bucks were 6.5 games behind the Hornets, who currently occupy the last spot for the NBA Play-In Tournament in the Eastern Conference.
This latest chapter comes after Antetokounmpo was at the center of trade rumors recently, leaving many speculating about his future with Milwaukee.
He sustained his injury during a landing from a dunk in the third quarter of the Bucks’ recent 134-123 victory over Indiana.
After that game, Antetokounmpo seemed unfazed, expressing that he wasn’t worried and preferred to focus on the moment.
He mentioned how medical staff persuaded him to sit out the rest of the game, noting the importance of appreciating every opportunity to play. “Every game is worth it,” he reflected, adding a touch of gratitude for being able to play when he finds his rhythm on the court.
While he did have imaging tests, there hasn’t been a formal announcement regarding when he might return.
