Joy Behar Calls Out Oscars for Neglecting Robert Duvall

On a recent episode of “The View,” co-host Joy Behar expressed her disappointment with the Oscars, describing the event as “negligent” for not giving more recognition to the late Robert Duvall.

Behar posed a question to show producer Brian Teta on the Behind the Table podcast, asking, “How about we pay a grand tribute to one of America’s great late actors? Who is he?” After a brief pause for Teta to guess, she revealed, “Robert Duvall!”

Duvall passed away on February 15 at the age of 95, as confirmed by his wife. Teta acknowledged that many notable stars had died recently.

Addressing the tribute, Behar noted, “Duvall was featured in the ‘In Memoriam’ segment, but he deserves more than that.” She voiced her concerns about other iconic actors not stepping up to honor Duvall during the ceremony.

“Where were Robert De Niro or Pacino? Or even Coppola to talk about Robert Duvall? I felt that was really unfortunate and neglectful,” she stated.

In a side conversation, Behar shared her thoughts on Jane Fonda’s remarks about Barbra Streisand’s tribute to Robert Redford in the same segment. Fonda had criticized the Academy for selecting Streisand, whom she claimed had less meaningful ties to Redford compared to her own.

Fonda humorously mentioned that she had “a lot more to say” about Redford due to their deeper connection.

Behar retorted, saying, “I love both Jane and Barbra, but honestly, none of Fonda’s movies topped ‘The Way We Were’ with Barbra.” She reflected on each actress’s contributions but seemed to subtly advocate for Streisand’s legacy.

The Academy has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the matter.
