Bongino Disagrees with Claim That Iran Was Not an Immediate Threat

Bongino Discusses Iran on “Hannity”

During a Wednesday appearance on FNC’s “Hannity,” former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino expressed his view that Iran does not pose an imminent threat, contesting opinions voiced by former Trump counterterrorism official Joe Kent.

Bongino stated, “I have a broader perspective. If you’re part of the audience and you’re not a fan of mine, that’s okay. It’s a republic; differing opinions exist.” He continued, “It’s interesting that no one else is sharing these concerns. But that’s fine — I know I’m not everyone’s favorite.”

He questioned why no one in the administration has declared Iran not to be an immediate danger. Bongino pointed out that while some religious leaders in Iran are capable of producing nuclear weapons, it’s perplexing that Kent’s assertions aren’t getting more support. “I’m proud of my service to this country, but I’m no longer part of the government, and I haven’t been asked to endorse anything,” he remarked.

Bongino added, “I have no agenda other than the truth. My understanding of intelligence was comprehensive before I left. I don’t grasp Kent’s claims.” He used an analogy to clarify the notion of “imminent threat,” likening it to a hurricane approaching Florida. “It might be four or five days away,” he explained, suggesting that while the threat level is serious, it’s not now. “What is your occupation? Are you prepared?” he questioned rhetorically.

“If you’re trying to understand criminal intent, you have to consider their rhetoric—like chanting ‘Death to America’—and their possession of nuclear materials. They have expressed no intention to back down,” he continued. “They were presented with opportunities for a civilian nuclear program but chose not to take them.”

In closing, Bongino emphasized the seriousness of Iran’s past actions, suggesting that when they express a desire to develop nuclear weapons, there’s reason to believe them. “Given their track record of terrorism, I find their intentions hard to downplay,” he concluded.
