Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders Claims Rude Treatment at Restaurant
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has alleged that she faced rude treatment from a staff member while dining at a local restaurant, which led to her being asked to leave. She recounted the incident during lunch at the Croissanterie in Little Rock, where she was accompanied by two other mothers.
In her statement, she said, “Last week, I was approached by the owner, who claimed my presence was making employees feel threatened, and I was asked to leave.” She expressed disappointment, noting that “Arkansans are known for their warm hospitality,” and emphasized her administration’s commitment to fostering a welcoming environment.
According to Sanders’ office, she visited the restaurant with a security detail on March 13 and had been seated for about an hour and 15 minutes when the owner expressed concerns about her presence, suggesting it was disruptive. Despite the request, Sanders and her guests complied and began to exit the restaurant. As they did, someone from the staff reportedly gestured and shouted at them to leave.
The restaurant later issued a statement explaining the situation. It revealed that when they became aware of Sanders’ presence, they initially decided to let her continue her meal in hopes that she’d finish without further incident. Over time, however, her security detail became noticeable to other patrons, which raised concerns among staff.
The establishment stated, “We recognized that any action has consequences,” indicating that they faced a dilemma between supporting their employees and serving the governor. They ultimately decided to back their employees, acknowledging that they felt uncomfortable with her presence, even though they did not remember anyone claiming to feel threatened during her visit.
After reviewing security footage, the restaurant confirmed that a staff member had sent a message to Sanders requesting her party to leave. They also clarified that many customers were unaware of any issues occurring in the dining area.
The situation has drawn parallels to a previous confrontation in 2018 when Sanders was asked to leave the Red Hen restaurant in Virginia due to her ties to President Trump. At that time, she tweeted, “I have always done my best to treat people with respect, including those with whom I disagree.”
This recent incident has reignited discussions about political figures facing backlash over their beliefs in public spaces, demonstrating the ongoing tensions surrounding political discourse in America.
