Meghan Markle’s Red Carpet Return Amid Netflix Tensions
Duchess Meghan made a noteworthy appearance on the red carpet recently, seemingly unfazed by ongoing reports about her relationship with Netflix. This event took place at the Children’s Rights Alliance’s 34th annual Children’s Champions gathering, held at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
All smiles, she posed next to her close friend, Kelly McKee Zadifen, before they both settled in for the event. Meghan opted for a simple yet elegant strapless blue dress, complemented by gold earrings and a matching bracelet. Kelly, on the other hand, sported a form-fitting black dress that showcased her pregnancy.
Her appearance followed a critical report detailing alleged issues with Netflix, which recently ended its collaboration with her lifestyle brand, As Ever. The publication claimed that during meetings, Meghan would “disappear” from Zoom calls if something offended her.
A Netflix official commented on the atmosphere during these meetings, suggesting it had become notably tense. They mentioned that Meghan and Prince Harry’s actions had caused a disruption, leading to a perception that their partnership was nearing its end.
In response to these claims, Meghan’s lawyer, Michael J. Kump, pointed out that she works from home and has young children, ages 4 and 6. He noted that interruptions are common during virtual meetings, suggesting that it’s a reality many working parents face.
Kump further asserted that Meghan’s behavior has been mischaracterized, suggesting these allegations reflect a broader, misogynistic narrative. Meanwhile, Harry vehemently dismissed the claims as “completely false.”
The report also alleged that Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos felt “disgusted” with the Sussexes and was unwilling to take calls from Meghan unless a lawyer was present. However, a Netflix spokesperson pushed back against this assertion, calling it “totally inaccurate.” Interestingly, insiders from Netflix noted that Sarandos and his wife frequently socialize with the couple, as they are neighbors in Montecito, California.
Initially, after stepping back from royal duties, Meghan and Harry signed a $100 million deal with Netflix in 2020. Since then, they’ve released a documentary that garnered significant attention, but their recent projects have faced criticism. Reports from last August suggested they had extended their contract, although the terms were not as favorable as before.
Most recently, Netflix ended its collaboration with Meghan’s lifestyle brand following the cancellation of her series due to poor ratings. Nevertheless, their production company, Archewell Productions, is reportedly still developing several scripted and non-scripted projects.
