Dennis Rodman Set for WWE Hall of Fame Induction
Dennis Rodman, a two-time Hall of Famer—yes, you heard that right, twice—will be honored at the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania weekend on April 17th. This was reported by ESPN on Friday.
Rodman, who won five NBA championships with the Bulls and Pistons, has had ties with World Championship Wrestling since 1997.
He’ll be joining a group of celebrities in the WWE Hall of Fame that features notable figures like Pete Rose, William Perry, Mike Tyson, and Muhammad Ali. This makes Rodman one of a kind, as he’s the only athlete to be inducted into both the Basketball and WWE Hall of Fames.
Rodman once went toe-to-toe with the legendary Hulk Hogan in a tag team match. Interestingly enough, he stirred some controversy when he skipped a Bulls practice prior to the 1998 NBA Finals to perform at the “Monday Night Nitro” pregame show, facing off against Diamond Dallas Page and Karl Malone at the 1998 Bash at the Beach.
His last outing with WCW took place at the 1999 Road Wild event.
In Las Vegas, he will also be inducted alongside Stephanie McMahon, AJ Styles, and Tag Team Demolition. It’s worth noting that, unlike the others, Rodman has undeniably experienced such fame; he was a member of the 2011 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class after a 14-year career.
Throughout his career, Rodman led the NBA in total rebounds seven times and averaged 13.1 rebounds per game. He earned the title of Defensive Player of the Year twice and was a part of the All-Defensive Team eight times.
He secured back-to-back championships with Detroit in 1989 and 1990, then went on to clinch three consecutive titles with Chicago from 1996 to 1998.
After short stints with the Lakers and Mavericks, he hung up his sneakers for good in 2000.
Recently, he faced some criticism from his daughter Trinity, who plays for the NWSL’s Washington Spirit, regarding his partying lifestyle during her upbringing.
In a candid moment on the “Call Daddy” podcast, Trinity remarked, “We kind of went on a road trip and kind of lived on it a little bit. We tried to move in with him, but he parties 24/7 and randomly brings friends over. He loves the spotlight, he loves the camera.” Yet, Rodman’s upcoming WWE induction is sure to bring him back into the limelight.
