Trump Considers Reducing Military Operations in Iran
President Donald Trump recently indicated a potential decrease in military activities in Iran. He mentioned that the responsibility for defending the Strait of Hormuz should fall to other nations, rather than the United States.
In a statement on Truth Social following a 21-day military operation, the president emphasized that the military actions have been quite effective.
“The critical point is that it will be an uncomplicated military operation for them,” he remarked.
Trump also stated the aim of scaling back the extensive military efforts in the Middle East aimed at Iran’s regime. He expressed optimism about achieving this objective soon.
He elaborated that military actions have significantly weakened Iran’s missile capabilities, and effectively dismantled its navy and air force, as well as hampering its nuclear ambitions. He specifically addressed the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to Trump, “The Strait of Hormuz needs to be patrolled and protected by nations that rely on it, but not by the United States!” He noted that while the U.S. would assist if necessary, there should be no need for intervention once the Iranian threat is neutralized.
Concerns about Iranian threats have already prompted oil tankers to halt operations in the strait, leading to increases in global gasoline prices.
He added that the U.S. has successfully ensured protection for its allies in the Middle East, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
Previously, Trump had called on other countries to participate in securing the straits. His latest comments suggested a stronger emphasis on the U.S. stepping back, especially considering that around 20% of global oil supplies transit through this crucial passage.
Recently, European countries and Japan condemned Iran’s actions in the strait, committing to safeguard this essential trade route. “We express our readiness to contribute to efforts ensuring safe navigation through the Strait,” stated a letter from the leaders. “We support the involvement of nations preparing for this,” it continued.
As oil prices rise, it seems U.S. allies are reconsidering their positions on defending the Strait of Hormuz against Iranian threats.
Trump assured potential defenders that the task would be manageable. “The important thing is that it will be an easy military operation for them. Thank you for paying attention to this matter!” he concluded.
