Karl-Anthony Towns Steps Up for Father in Dramatic Win
Karl-Anthony Towns found himself at Barclays Center on Friday night, a surprise to him and perhaps to everyone else. He decided to heed the advice of his father, Carl Sr., who is currently on the mend after treatment. Towns delivered an impressive 26 points and snagged 15 rebounds in a nail-biting 93-92 win over the Nets.
“Honestly, I wasn’t planning to play at all. But my pops really wanted me to,” Towns shared. Before the game, he was listed as questionable due to personal matters. “I thought, why not? So I showed up—just for the game. After this, I’m heading back to support him through his recovery,” he added.
Carl Sr., who once lit up the court at Monmouth University, is usually a regular at his son’s matches, often taking commercial flights to follow the Knicks on their road trips.
This season has been tough for Towns; he lost his mother, Jacqueline Cruz, to COVID-19 back in 2020.
On a positive note, authorities indicated that Carl Sr.’s health issues are not life-threatening.
Nets Update on Michael Porter Jr.
The Nets have yet to make a definitive call on Michael Porter Jr.’s season status, but it might be wise to assume he’s done for the year. Porter has been sidelined with a left hamstring strain and is set to be evaluated in two to three weeks.
Coach Jordi Fernandez commented, “It’s tough to say if he’ll be back this season. We have a couple of weeks to work through first, and then there’s a preparation period. So, let’s see where we are after that.” It sounds like they’ll take it slow.
Player Injuries and Updates
Noah Clowney sat out Friday’s match due to a right wrist sprain and is likely to miss Sunday’s game in Sacramento. “He was in serious pain; we had to pull him out,” Fernandez remarked. “The moment I noticed he was struggling, I thought about getting him a sub. It was urgent.” They’ll evaluate his status moving forward.
Additionally, Terrence Mann (illness), Egor Demin (plantar fasciitis), and Dayron Sharpe (thumb) were also not in the lineup for the game against Brooklyn.
Knicks Highlights
Jalen Brunson made a comeback in his 65th game after missing a prior match against Indiana, which is significant for his postseason prospects. He’s currently a strong candidate for an All-NBA selection and is regarded as the Clutch Player of the Year.
Sadly for the Knicks, Josh Hart was sidelined due to runner’s knee.
Josh Minott Shines for Brooklyn
For the Nets, Josh Minott had quite the game, scoring 22 points and hitting 6 of 9 from behind the arc, marking his best performance from three-point land yet. He finished just two points shy of his personal record, contributing five rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in nearly 26 minutes off the bench.
