SF could secure a national title.

The 49ers have made some effective moves in free agency, particularly in refining their defensive line and enhancing their wide receiver group.

This strategic approach gives them flexibility as they head into the draft; they can now focus on selecting the top available players across several positions during the early rounds.

They’re not under pressure to fill a specific position, which is always a comfortable place to be.

Here’s a look at how their first three rounds might unfold.

1st Round No. 27

Omar Cooper Jr., WR, Indiana

It’s possible the 49ers will consider boosting their offensive line at this pick. They could benefit from finding a long-term replacement for left tackle Trent Williams and also need some reinforcements on the right side. If a top talent happens to slip, they might secure a good pick at No. 27, but otherwise, they may need to wait for later rounds.

While they’re also eyeing the defensive line to improve their pass rush, the recent trade for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa has provided some alleviation there.

Nonetheless, the acquisitions of veteran wide receivers like Mike Evans and Christian Kirk look to be more short-term fixes than long-term solutions.

Going forward, the 49ers want more offensive firepower, and Cooper Jr. could fit the bill. He aligns well with Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme and should be available on day one of the draft.

The former Indiana standout has quickly climbed in draft rankings, so there’s a chance he may not even be there when it’s their time to pick.

If he is available, they’ll likely seize that opportunity.

2nd Round No. 58

AJ Halsey, S, LSU

If the 49ers opt for an offensive lineman here, they might consider candidates like Kansas State’s Sam Hecht, Boise State’s Cage Casey, or Iowa State’s Jennings Dunker.

For defensive line options, they could look at Texas A&M’s Cassius Howell or Central Florida’s Malachi Lawrence among others. If they haven’t picked a wide receiver in the first round, they might explore names like Clemson’s Antonio Williams or Georgia’s Zachariah Branch at this juncture.

Having already secured Cooper Jr., the 49ers will likely prioritize bolstering their secondary, focusing on cornerback depth and safety improvements.

Halsey, known as “Mr. Give Me That,” brings a tough, energetic style that fits perfectly into any defensive scheme. Over the last two seasons, he’s recorded eight interceptions and 12 pass breakups, showcasing his knack for making plays.

His potential as a Day 1 starter makes him a valuable pick this late in the draft.

3rd Round, No Selection

Originally, the 49ers held the No. 92 pick, but they traded that away to the Cowboys to acquire Odighizuwa.
