College Waiter Challenges UN Ambassador Mike Waltz on the Need for Strikes Against Iran

U.S. Ambassador Discusses Iranian Conflict at Town Hall

During a recent CNN town hall, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Walz responded to a challenging question regarding how the Iranian attack benefitted Americans. The inquiry arose after President Donald Trump revealed that U.S. and Israeli forces had launched an attack on Iran following stalled negotiations concerning the country’s nuclear program.

One participant, Santiago Porras Ruiz, voiced his concerns, explaining he was juggling his job as a waiter in Queens with being a full-time college student who struggles with debt. He asked Walz, “How can a war in a country half a world away, funded by taxes taken from my check, help me?”

Walz acknowledged the difficulty of the question, stating, “That’s a fair question, but it’s a difficult question.” He highlighted that major corporations are affecting housing markets and mentioned the president’s tax cuts and energy policies aimed at reducing dependency and lowering costs, including for prescription drugs. He emphasized how these policies connect to everyday lives.

The situation has escalated, with tanker movements in the Strait of Hormuz halted after Iran retaliated against U.S. and Israeli actions. This has caused an increase in oil prices, with WTI futures rising significantly since the onset of Operation Epic Fury.

Walz further stated that the president, as commander in chief, faces tough choices amid serious global threats. He emphasized the importance of confronting a regime seen as a menace, noting that, “We cannot have a world where we have a genocidal terrorist regime…holding generations hostage with nuclear weapons.” He pointed out the tough demands placed on the president and reaffirmed the commitment to not yield on critical issues.

In closing, Walz acknowledged the complexities of these decisions, reaffirming their priority for the administration.
