Cam Skatebo Apologizes for Comments on CTE and Asthma

New York Giants running back Cam Skatebo has issued an apology regarding his recent comments where he claimed that CTE isn’t real and described asthma as “fake.” In an episode of the Bring the Juice podcast, Skatebo suggested that CTE was merely an “excuse” when asked about its legitimacy.

He also made light of asthma, telling those who suffer from it to “just get some air.”

In a follow-up post on his Instagram Story, Skatebo acknowledged that he had made a poor choice in commenting on serious health issues. “I never intended to undermine the seriousness of head trauma or asthma,” he stated after the podcast clip began circulating.

He continued, “I sincerely apologize to those who were offended by my words. I promise to be more considerate and respectful in my actions in the future. With love!”

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a progressive brain disease linked to repeated head injuries, not just a singular event. Research indicates that over 100 former NFL players have been diagnosed with CTE posthumously.

Last season, Skatebo established himself as a crowd favorite, scoring seven touchdowns in as many games until a severe ankle injury sidelined him. His quarterback, Jackson Dart, faced multiple concussion tests throughout the season, missing two games after a concussion diagnosis. Skatebo has been fined previously for entering a medical tent during a concussion assessment.

In an offseason shakeup, the Giants replaced head coach Brian Daboll, who had a commendable inaugural year, with John Harbaugh, following his release from the Baltimore Ravens.
