Church in Georgia Celebrates Mass Baptism
A church in Georgia is celebrating after hundreds were baptized in a single day, spurred by a gospel message. Members from Bethlehem Church’s campuses in Barrow, Jackson, and Oconee gathered on March 1, where 13 baptisms were originally planned, according to reports.
However, once attendees were encouraged to put their trust in Jesus Christ, an astounding 387 more baptisms took place.
Senior Pastor Jason Britt, who was set to deliver a sermon about the Holy Spirit, felt a strong prompt to invite people to be baptized immediately. He referenced Acts 2, recalling how the Holy Spirit descended upon believers during Pentecost, and shared how the scripture moved him deeply.
Britt quoted, “Repent, all of you, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” He emphasized that this promise extends to everyone, including future generations and those who are afar off.
As adults continued to line up for baptism, Britt and other church members were in awe. He noted that people didn’t want to leave, leading to a shift from the 9 a.m. service to an 11 a.m. one, with the gathering lasting about one and a half to two hours. The parking lot was packed, with some attendees watching online before coming to the church.
Images from the event captured smiling faces before and after baptisms, highlighting the joy of the occasion. “This weekend, 400 people bravely came forward to declare their faith. That’s 400 stories reflecting a faithful God,” the church shared, pointing out the significance of such gatherings and hinting at the transformative power of Jesus in people’s lives.
Britt was cautious in labeling the event as a revival, opting instead to refer to it as a “new awakening.” He noted that during the Great Awakening, people were not aware of its significance, but they felt that God was actively at work.
