Gianotti Critiques Tierney on WFAN Show
On Monday morning, Greg Gianotti expressed his frustration with Brandon Tierney during a broadcast with Boomer Esiason on WFAN.
Gianotti accused Tierney of lacking a sense of humor, referring to him as a “bad teammate” following a recent on-air call from Tierney, who was dismissed from WFAN in December. The call was made to discuss St. John’s participation in the NCAA Tournament.
Gianotti stated, “Everyone who worked with Brandon couldn’t stand him. People hated working with that guy. He bullied the producers and disrespected them. So, don’t say I’m a bad teammate just because I don’t get the joke. He’s a bad teammate.”
He elaborated on a prank the WFAN team pulled on Tierney during a St. John’s game, where they teased him after he called in.
“He takes everything too seriously,” Gianotti continued. “He can’t laugh at himself and doesn’t really get it. If he had shown a little more personality, he might have seen more success here.”
Gianotti mentioned an incident concerning a CBS Sports Radio segment in Pittsburgh, where Tierney’s humor was deemed questionable by executives.
He also recalled a moment when ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith criticized ex-Giants running back Tiki Barber. Rather than siding with Tierney, Gianotti chose to remain neutral, expressing his fondness for both individuals.
“Guess who has the team? This guy,” Gianotti said, pointing to himself. “Good luck. If you need a motivational speech, I know where to go.”
Following a recent lineup change at WFAN, Tierney found himself out of a job. Craig Carton returned to the station, teaming up with former late-night host Chris McMonigle for the afternoon time slot. This shuffled Tierney and Sal Licata out after their show had aired for the last time on December 12, 2025.
Reflecting on his departure, Tierney said on the air, “I know you don’t want it to end, but I’m not scared of it ending. I’m okay. I mean, it might not sound great right now, but I promise you, I’m okay. I’m going to keep fighting and I’m going to do really big things.”
Tierney had spent more than a decade working in New York at both CBS Sports Radio and WFAN. Now, he’s channeling his efforts into his YouTube channel, “BT Unleashed.”
