Oregon Man Arrested Again for Threatening the President
An Oregon man is back in custody after he sent a text message to his probation officer indicating he wanted to “kill the president.”
Diedrich Holgate, 47, was previously convicted last July for making threats on social media and had contacted the Washington office of the U.S. Secret Service threatening to kill both former presidential candidate Donald Trump and then-incumbent Joe Biden.
In June 2024, Holgate stated during a call to the Secret Service, “I have the right to kill the president.” Later, he added, “I’m going to kill them all. The president will die. I don’t care if it’s Trump or Biden. We’ll hang them all for treason.”
Just two months after these threats, he reached out to the Secret Service again, claiming he would “hang him for treason,” asserting that nobody, not even the First Lady or a Supreme Court justice, could protect the president from him.
Holgate was released from custody on January 21 and instructed to reside in a more controlled environment. Shortly after his release, though, his probation officer filed a motion to revoke his probation due to multiple violations, including ongoing threats against the president.
The petition detailed that Holgate sent numerous threatening texts to his probation officer, including alarming messages like “Trump forgive me or I’ll kill you!!!” In another text, he wrote, “Either you stay with me or you’re a traitor and an infidel with the mark of the beast. And hell? It won’t last forever. It’s the second death. You will be erased.”
A magistrate indicated, during a preliminary hearing, that there was sufficient cause to believe Holgate had violated the terms of his release. In addition to the threats made, he missed an important meeting with his probation officer and did not adhere to house rules, such as vaping.
Holgate will remain in custody until his next court hearing set for March 26. Prior to this, he had also been convicted back in 2018 for sending threatening voicemails to two judges in Travis County, Texas.
