A judge in New Jersey has officially appointed Attorney Robert Fraser as the new U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, following the resignation of Alina Haba.
As per the order from the Chief United States District Judge, Fraser will assume his role starting March 23, 2026, according to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey’s website.
Fraser expressed gratitude upon his selection, stating that New Jersey needs a dedicated federal law enforcement leader aligned with President Donald Trump’s policies for making the country safer. Haba resigned in December after a federal court upheld a ruling that her appointment had not followed legal procedures.
“Congratulations to my colleague Rob Fraser, who has just been appointed the next United States Attorney,” Haba noted. “New Jersey deserves a federal law enforcement officer who will support President Trump’s approaches to enhance safety and improve our state!”
The Department of Justice confirmed Fraser’s appointment in court documents. He has been a part of the Office for over 20 years and most recently served as a senior trial attorney.
Following Haba’s exit, there were reports about Fraser taking over from a group of three prosecutors who filled in after her departure. This group was deemed illegal by U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann earlier this month.
In March 2025, President Trump had appointed Haba as the interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey. However, a district court judge later replaced her with Desiree Grace, who was previously Haba’s top aide. Attorney General Pam Bondi then dismissed Grace shortly after.
