Gavin Newsom criticized for likening himself to Patrick Bateman

Gavin Newsom’s Bizarre Comparison

California Governor Gavin Newsom has found himself in hot water after likening his looks to that of Patrick Bateman, the notorious character from “American Psycho.” This unusual claim has prompted considerable backlash across social media.

In a post on his X account, Newsom shared a split-screen image featuring himself alongside actor Christian Bale, who portrayed the fictional serial killer in the 2000 film. He remarked, “For years, people have told me that Patrick Bateman and I look alike. This photo is now being spread all over the place. What do you think?”

The post quickly turned into a punchline for many. Right-wing YouTuber Nick Shirley responded, “I don’t know if your communications person has read who Patrick Bateman is, but I don’t think comparing yourself to him is the flexibility you think it is,” backing it up with a description of Bateman from Wikipedia.

Another user remarked, “You’re a weirdo and now the whole world knows it,” while someone else quipped, “That’s right… you’re a psychopath. Unfortunately, California is your victim.” Various comments labeled Newsom as an “un-American psychopath” and highlighted a perceived lack of self-awareness.

One critic simply wondered, “Who would post something like this about themselves?” A humorous take came from the Monterey County Republican Party, which joked, “Brother, this is X, not Tinder.”

Initially, Newsom made a comparison to Bale himself, but that particular post was quickly deleted, and he switched the focus to Bateman instead. Some observers noted similarities between Newsom’s social media tactics and those of former President Trump, suggesting his team might be using a similar style to provoke reactions.

One user even expressed support for Newsom’s post, seeing it as a light-hearted jibe at Trump, referencing a past photo where Trump claimed he resembled Elvis Presley. The expression on social media is, perhaps, an interesting reflection of political discourse in today’s landscape.
