400 People Baptized at a Georgia Church in a Single Sunday: 'There’s a New Awakening'

A church in Georgia recently experienced a remarkable display of faith, with 400 individuals baptized in one Sunday—a moment church leaders believe was divinely inspired.

On March 1, Bethlehem Church in Winder, Georgia, witnessed an extraordinary transformation of its typical services into mass baptism events at three different locations. Senior Pastor Jason Britt mentioned to the Christian Index that while only 13 baptisms were originally planned, a surprising 387 additional individuals responded and were baptized.

Britt is currently engaging with a sermon series centered on the Holy Spirit, named “Familiar Stranger,” where he explores what he considers “the person, power, and presence of the Holy Spirit.” While preparing for his message, he recalled a moment from the Acts of the Apostles, stating that during Pentecost, he felt the Lord compelling people not just to embrace repentance and faith, but to act quickly by being baptized.

“As I read the book with a renewed perspective, it emphasized ‘Repent and be baptized,’ and I sensed the Holy Spirit was strongly urging this upon me,” Britt shared with the Index.

Typically, Baptist baptisms are scheduled in advance, with participants arriving ready for the event. Yet, on that particular Sunday, individuals approached in their everyday clothes, eager to participate. The church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Britt noted that the moment eclipsed the usual worship schedule, with congregants reluctant to leave. “The 9 a.m. service extended into the 11 a.m. service. It lasted between an hour and a half to two hours, and the parking lot was packed,” he observed.

Interestingly, some viewers of the early services online felt inspired to come in person for later services, ready for baptism.

Britt believes there’s a divine movement extending beyond her immediate community.

“I hesitate to declare a ‘resurrection,’ but it seems like there’s a new awakening,” he mentioned. “Speaking about revival requires a look back. During the Great Awakening, those involved didn’t realize they were living in it; they just knew God was active.”
