Vince Vaughn Critiques Late-Night TV Shows’ Political Focus

Actor Vince Vaughn has shared his thoughts on late-night television, expressing concerns that it has become overly political and is distancing itself from viewers.

During an interview with comedian Theo Fong on the podcast “This Past Weekend,” Vaughn discussed his feelings about the current landscape of late-night television.

“It seemed like they had an agenda. It wasn’t fun anymore, and I felt like I was stuck in a class I didn’t want to take,” Vaughn remarked.

Fong pointed to a left-leaning bias in the entertainment industry as a cause for declining ratings in late-night shows. “The issue is that for a while, the only people they could poke fun at were white, redneck types, and that’s when things went sideways,” he said.

“They never quite got it right,” Vaughn responded, noting that as productions and writers declined, podcasts gained traction. “I mean, we’re working with a couple of people who are both hungover—it’s quite the scene,” Fong joked.

“Yes, because audiences are craving authenticity,” Vaughn continued. “It seems like most talk shows are driven by an agenda. They act on what they think is right, and audiences can feel it. It no longer feels genuine; instead, it’s as if they have a purpose. It lost its fun.”

He directly linked the drop in ratings to celebrity political opinions. “What happened with talk shows and why their ratings are slipping is because they all became so similar. They turned into platforms for politics—deciding who’s the good and bad guys.”

Vaughn added humorously, “Just think about it—imagine sitting next to someone like that on a flight! You’d be wondering how to escape your seat!”

A clip of Vaughn’s remarks has gone viral on social media, racking up over 1.6 million views in under a day.

Additionally, Vaughn, who has previously identified as liberal, shared how he navigated Hollywood without facing backlash by remaining honest and avoiding antagonism toward differing viewpoints. “Worrying about what others think will just make you miserable. Finding a way to be respectful while being true to yourself is key.”
