Texas Man Sentenced for Murder of Elderly Girlfriend
A tattooed man from Texas received a 40-year prison sentence last week for brutally killing his elderly girlfriend, who was significantly older than him. The incident occurred last year, and the details reveal a tragic scenario.
Alberto Rafael Ferrer Cabrera, who is 27, was given the sentence by Bexar County Judge Cristina Escalona. The court found him guilty for slashing the throat of his girlfriend, Donald Asa Weinand, an 81-year-old man, on February 1, 2025, in San Antonio.
On the morning of the murder, Cabrera, then 26, reportedly called 911 around 5 a.m. to confess that he had stabbed Weinand to death. When police arrived at the scene, they confirmed the elderly man’s death.
The motive behind this horrific act has not been disclosed. However, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office mentioned that Cabrera was “stressed” about bringing his four-year-old son from Colombia to the United States at that time.
I can’t help but think about how, by the time Cabrera completes his sentence, he will be much younger than the age Weinand was when he was killed.
Following his arrest, Cabrera was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and faced charges of murder and illegal entry into the country. Interestingly, reports indicate that the charge regarding his immigration status has since been removed from online court records.
Weinand’s daughter, Katrina Mercado, expressed her distrust regarding Cabrera, admitting to never having spoken to him. She mentioned that she felt unsettled about the entire situation.
Mercado expressed her disbelief over the incident, saying, “I can’t believe it.” She feels the questions surrounding her father’s death will linger as they gather the courage to process the tragedy. Ultimately, she wants her father to be remembered as a loving parent.
District Attorney Joe Gonzalez also commented, emphasizing that Weinand deserved to live safely and with dignity, reinforcing the commitment to hold those who commit such violent acts accountable.
