Anne Hathaway’s Influence in The Devil Wears Prada 2 Casting

Anne Hathaway played a quiet yet significant role in the casting process for The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Co-star Meryl Streep will return as Miranda Priestly in this sequel. While filming the Dolce & Gabbana fashion show at Milan Fashion Week, Streep remarked that she and Hathaway were “shocked not only by how beautiful and young the models were… but also by how amazingly thin they were…”

Streep mentioned, “I thought we had resolved these issues years ago. Annie, she got it and went straight to the producers, making sure the models we cast for the film wouldn’t be as skeletal.”

“She’s a stand-up girl,” Streep added in praise.

There’s a considerable amount of expectation surrounding the movie, which is set to release on May 1, two decades after the original.

Hathaway pointed out that one of the key differences between the sequel and the first film is that this time it was made “with awareness.” The first film faced uncertainty, and initially, fashion brands hesitated to collaborate and lend their attire.

Now, as designers hustle to bring this new chapter to life, it’s not just the stunning outfits and jewelry that are grabbing attention; the cast and crew are also drawing crowds on the streets of New York.

Streep shared her experience, saying, “Annie kept her cool, but I was upset,” referring to the overwhelming excitement surrounding the production.

Yet there was a moment of panic for Hathaway. While on set, she took a tumble. “I knew I was falling, and I was being photographed. I could see the concern on the faces of the crew. So, I quickly got up to reassure them I was fine,” she recounted. Later, she told director David Frankel, “Oh, no. I’m news.”
