Bodies Discovered in Laredo Rail Car
In Laredo, Texas, several bodies were reportedly found inside a Union Pacific Railroad car on Sunday, close to the border with Mexico.
According to investigators, at least six migrants’ bodies were located within a rail car at the yard. It appears they may have been there for a considerable amount of time.
Authorities suspect these individuals might have been attempting to cross into the United States, but something clearly went tragically wrong.
It seems the migrants had boarded the train near Spofford, Texas, under the assumption it would take them north into the U.S. Instead, the route led them from Spofford to Laredo, a journey of over 100 miles. The train originated in California, with Laredo as its final stop. Families of the migrants reported them missing to U.S. authorities.
Reports indicate that the bodies could have been left in the car for days, possibly due to early decomposition. Some of the deceased were found without clothing, suggesting they suffered from heat exhaustion.
Unfortunately, human smugglers often confine migrants in rail cars or trailers, disregarding their safety. It’s not uncommon for these situations to end in tragedy. The rail yard is located roughly 0.4 to 0.6 miles from the Texas-Mexico border.
The area, known as Port Laredo, has a reputation for both human and drug smuggling activities.
The investigation has been taken over by ICE Homeland Security Investigations.
This is a developing situation, and more information may emerge as the investigation progresses.
