Taxpayers Covered Housing Expenses for Illegal Immigrant Charged with Murdering Sheridan Gorman

Chicago Taxpayers Fund Housing for Illegal Immigrant Accused of Murder

Residents of Chicago, a sanctuary city, have reportedly financed the housing of an undocumented immigrant accused of murdering Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old Loyola University student.

According to reports, Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old immigrant from Venezuela, was apprehended by local authorities after he allegedly killed Gorman during an unprovoked attack at Chicago’s Toby Prinz Beach.

Prosecutors indicated that Gorman was out with friends when she noticed Medina-Medina lurking nearby. As the group attempted to flee, he opened fire, fatally wounding the college freshman.

Prior to this incident, Medina-Medina was arrested for shoplifting in June 2023. However, strict local policies meant he was not handed over to immigration officials.

During his earlier arrest, it came to light that Medina-Medina was residing in taxpayer-funded accommodation at the Leone Beach Park Fieldhouse in Rogers Park, a shelter provided by the city. This facility has been used to house many undocumented immigrants who have come to Chicago seeking various benefits. Reports indicated that by June 2023, over 10,500 immigrants had been transported to Chicago, following a directive from Texas Governor Greg Abbott to challenge cities that do not collaborate with federal immigration authorities.

Medina-Medina had crossed the southern border on May 9, 2023, and was released into the U.S. under the previous administration’s catch-and-release policies, which have faced criticism for contributing to various violent incidents involving undocumented immigrants.

Many Americans have lost their lives due to the actions of illegal immigrants released into the country; notable cases include victims of various ages and backgrounds. The issue remains a point of contention in discussions surrounding immigration policies.
