Springsteen supports his anti-ICE song before the No Kings rally in St. Paul

Bruce Springsteen criticizes ICE, condemns 'Gestapo' methods at concert

Bruce Springsteen recently defended his political stances against ICE and former President Trump, just before a “No Kings” rally set for this weekend in St. Paul. He expressed this sentiment while discussing the importance of the No Kings movement, emphasizing its relevance in today’s climate. He said, “We’re about to have that moment,” highlighting the power of music in elevating social issues that need attention.

This rally also marks the beginning of his 20-date “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour,” kicking off on March 31 in Minneapolis. This comes on the heels of his new protest song, “Streets of Minneapolis,” which critiques Trump’s administration for its aggressive stance on immigration enforcement in the state.

In response to criticism of his politically charged music, Springsteen stood firm. Quoting his musician friend Tom Morello, he remarked that while nuance is important, sometimes directness is necessary. He added, “I’m not worried about that. My job is very simple. I do what I want to do and say what I want to say.” For him, engaging in cultural moments through music is not just a choice, but a commitment. He also acknowledged the significance of current protests, viewing this moment as one of critical importance for the nation.

Reflecting on the state of the country, he noted that crises like today’s echo the turmoil of 1968—suggesting we are at a pivotal point regarding our national identity and values. He asserted, “You have to go back to another moment when the country was in such a state of crisis… This is a big, big moment.”

Springsteen has been publicly critical of ICE, particularly following the death of a Minneapolis resident, leading to combative remarks during his performances that called for changes in immigration policies. He stated, “If you believe in democracy and freedom… send a message to this president,” echoing the calls for accountability from officials and the public alike.
