ICE Arrests Man for Alleged Rape of Child in Long Island
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken into custody a man accused of raping a 5-year-old girl on Long Island, New York.
“Carlos Aguilar Reynoso, a Guatemalan national in the U.S. illegally, has been charged with the rape of a young child in New York,” stated Lauren Biss from the Department of Homeland Security.
Local police reached out to ICE while processing DNA samples related to the case. This collaboration aims to ensure that Aguilar Reynoso doesn’t return to the community, where he might pose a danger to other children. On March 16, ICE transferred him to local authorities to face charges for his alleged offenses. This situation highlights the importance of cooperation between local law enforcement and federal authorities to enhance community safety.
According to law enforcement, Aguilar Reynoso was babysitting the girl when the incident occurred. Her mother discovered her daughter injured and took her to the hospital.
While they waited for the DNA test results, Suffolk County authorities charged Aguilar Reynoso with child endangerment, which is significant in its own right.
To navigate around New York’s bail reform regulations, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney requested a ticket for Aguilar Reynoso to appear in court regarding the child endangerment charge.
Consequently, ICE agents apprehended Aguilar Reynoso right after he left a Suffolk County police station on February 2. He was subsequently transferred to local police on March 16 to potentially face child rape charges.
Tierney criticized the ongoing bail reform movement and the proposed sanctuary law in New York, which would limit communication between local law enforcement and ICE.
“It’s astonishing that there’s a new sanctuary law being discussed in Albany that could obstruct negotiations with federal immigration officials,” Tierney remarked in a media interview. “I urge state legislators and the governor to reconsider protecting suspected child rapists over their victims.”
Lee Zeldin, the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator and former Long Island congressman now running for governor against Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul, expressed his distress over the situation.
Zeldin shared on X, “An illegal immigrant from Guatemala has been charged with the horrific rape of a 5-year-old child on Long Island.”
Aguilar Reynoso entered the U.S. at the Mexico border without being identified.
A federal immigration judge issued a final order for his deportation on March 16. He’s slated to return to Suffolk County Court next month and could face a 25-year prison sentence if convicted of the charges against him.
