SAN FRANCISCO — Warriors Secure Play-In Spot with Narrow Victory
Gui Santos delivered a career-best performance, scoring 31 points, while Draymond Green nailed two crucial free throws with just 6.9 seconds on the clock. The Golden State Warriors edged out the Nets, 109-106, securing a spot in the play-in tournament.
Brandin Podzemski contributed significantly with 22 points, along with six rebounds and five assists for the Warriors (35-38), marking their first win at Chase Center after a challenging 2-4 road trip.
For the Nets, Kristaps Porzingis scored 17 points, and De’Anthony Melton chipped in with 14, including two free throws in the final minutes. This victory was particularly sweet for Golden State as they hadn’t beaten Brooklyn since December 16, 2023.
Ziare Williams led the Nets with 19 points as they struggled through their ninth consecutive loss. Jalen Wilson also made an impact off the bench with 15 points, while Ben Saraf added 14 points and seven rebounds.
The game had a sellout crowd at Chase Center, marking the Warriors’ 600th consecutive sellout — quite a feat and the sixth longest in NBA history.
Despite leading for much of the game, the Nets found themselves trailing as fatigue set in during the fourth quarter. Brooklyn struggled to finish strong, shooting only 8-of-20 in crunch time, with a disappointing 2-of-9 from beyond the arc.
The Warriors, who played without their star Stephen Curry due to injury, faced their own challenges, turning the ball over 15 times in the first half and finding it tough to establish their rhythm.
Bizarrely, Brooklyn started on a cold streak, missing 10 of their first 15 attempts until Williams found his groove. He scored 11 of his points in a first-half run that helped the Nets to a 58-50 lead by halftime.
In the third quarter, Golden State drew close at 63-62, but Powell’s back-to-back three-pointers helped pull Brooklyn back into control.
