Uganda’s Military Commander Backs Israel in Conflict
On Wednesday, Uganda’s military chief tweeted that the nation is prepared to take up arms alongside Israel.
“We want the Middle East wars to end now. The world is tired of it. But if we discuss destroying or defeating Israel, we will be drawn into war. We are on Israel’s side!” wrote General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who leads the Uganda People’s Defense Forces and is the son of President Yoweri Museveni.
This statement quickly gained traction online, with over 1.3 million interactions across social media by Thursday morning.
The following day, Kainerugaba expanded on his views, stating: “We stand with Israel because we are Christians. Saved by God’s holy Son… Jesus Christ is the only one who can forgive sins. The Bible says: ‘Blessed are you, Israel! Who is like you among the Lord’s saved people? He is your shield, your helper, your shining sword.’” (Deuteronomy 33:29)
“Israel was on our side in the 1980s and 1990s when we were struggling. Why not protect her now that our GDP is $100 billion? One of Africa’s largest countries,” he added in another tweet.
Additionally, last month, Kainerugaba announced plans for Uganda to build a statue honoring IDF Lt. Col. Prime Minister Yonatan Netanyahu, who was killed during a notable rescue mission in Uganda in 1976.
The statue will reportedly be placed at Entebbe airport, the site of Netanyahu’s heroic efforts.
On Thursday morning, the general shared a “sneak peek” of the statue set to be unveiled “soon.”
