Tyler Perry stopped at Atlanta airport from giving money to TSA employees

Tyler Perry arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta on Thursday, with the intention of offering substantial financial help to TSA workers who have been enduring hardship due to the ongoing government shutdown. Unfortunately, he ran into federal regulations that prevented him from doing so.

The well-known media mogul, a local resident, expressed his desire to help employees who have not received pay since February 14 amidst the Department of Homeland Security shutdown, while Congress remains unable to find a resolution.

However, the kind gesture was thwarted by strict rules prohibiting TSA personnel from accepting gifts during their duty hours.

Instead of distributing cash, Perry chose to engage with the employees, greeting them and expressing gratitude for their perseverance through the challenging period.

According to reports, just Perry’s presence was enough to boost the morale of the tired workers significantly.

A spokesperson from the DHS reiterated the policy that TSA agents are not allowed to accept gifts while at their posts.

Notably, Aaron Barker, the president of the American Federation of Government Employees, mentioned that contributions for TSA workers could be funneled through unions to provide support.

This isn’t the first time Perry has stepped in during a crisis; he previously donated $1.5 million during the 2025 government shutdown to assist Atlanta families who found their SNAP benefits cut.

With security lines at Hartsfield-Jackson stretching extensively—sometimes reaching all the way to baggage claim and wait times averaging five hours—travelers have been advised to arrive at the airport several hours before their flights.

Conditions for TSA employees are reportedly becoming increasingly dire, with some feeling compelled to sell blood or sleep in their cars as they cope with unpaid wages.

Nationwide, airport operations are facing significant stress, leading to repeated delays and confusion.

On a more hopeful note, there seems to be a potential breakthrough coming. Donald Trump announced Thursday that he plans to sign an emergency order to ensure TSA workers receive pay, directing criticism at Democrats while promising urgent action.

He stated, “I intend to sign an order directing Secretary of Homeland Security Mark Wayne Mullin to immediately pay TSA agents to address this emergency and quickly stop the Democratic disruption at the airport. It will not be easy, but I will get it done!”
