Tragic Multi-Vehicle Accident Involving School Bus in West Tennessee
In a tragic incident on Friday, at least two students lost their lives, and several more were injured in a multi-vehicle accident involving a school bus in West Tennessee.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Maj. Travis Plotzer, the crash occurred on Highway 70 in Carroll County, involving a state Department of Transportation dump truck, a Chevrolet Trailblazer, and the school bus. He described the event as “a parent’s worst nightmare.”
Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the accident. However, authorities noted that the Department of Transportation dump truck didn’t seem to have a role in the crash.
Officials stated that there were 25 students along with five adults on the bus, which was transporting a group from Kenwood Middle School to Jackson, Tennessee, for a field trip. The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System confirmed that all families of those on board have been contacted.
“Our hearts go out to the Kenwood community, students, staff, faculty, friends, and neighbors. Please join us in praying for everyone involved,” the school expressed in a statement.
In total, at least seven individuals were hospitalized in Tennessee, though the severity of their injuries remains unclear. A spokesperson from Vanderbilt Health mentioned that four people were transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville and are currently in stable condition.
Additionally, nineteen other individuals were taken to Carroll County Baptist Memorial Hospital, where they were assessed and later discharged.
