Tiger Woods is known for driving at high speeds, but a former employee insists he wasn’t on “illicit drugs” during his latest rollover crash.
This prominent athlete has a reputation for speeding through the upscale areas of Florida, according to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail.
“He really is a reckless driver… often speeds like a bat out of hell where lawn crews operate with heavy machinery,” the source remarked.
“I was in the car with him once; he was going 55 or 60 miles an hour, passing a police officer who didn’t seem to care at all.”
The 50-year-old athlete seemed to show similar reckless behavior again recently while attempting to navigate around a truck towing a small trailer on a narrow stretch of South Beach Road in Jupiter Island, where the speed limit is just 30 miles per hour.
According to police, the truck driver attempted to pull over, but Woods ended up grazing the trailer, causing his SUV to flip over.
Officers reported Woods appeared “lethargic” and displayed “signs of impairment” after he crawled out of the wrecked vehicle.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, criminal damage to property, and refusing a legal test, despite blowing a zero on a breathalyzer.
However, sources reassured that there was no risk of Woods abusing “illicit drugs.” One insider stated, “I know him, but that’s really not anyone’s business.”
Woods declined to provide a urine sample, claiming he was on prescription opioids due to past injuries. The source added, “He’s been on a lot of painkillers for years.”
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek suggested that Woods didn’t take the urine test simply as a way to avoid incriminating himself.
In addition to DUI, Woods faced charges for criminal damage to property and refusal to submit to inspection.
This incident marks his second DUI arrest and third notable car accident.
Woods was previously arrested in 2017, found unconscious behind the wheel, under the influence of a mix of prescription painkillers. He accepted a plea deal for reckless driving and was sentenced to a year of probation.
