Tyler Perry’s Generous Gesture at Atlanta Airport
Actor and film producer Tyler Perry recently visited Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta with plans to offer a “substantial” amount of cash to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers, but he was reportedly turned away.
Living in Atlanta, Perry aimed to support TSA employees affected by the government shutdown, but federal regulations put a stop to his intentions. Although TSA workers cannot accept cash due to these restrictions, local media noted that Perry’s visit and the thought behind his gesture still lifted the spirits of airport staff.
Instead of handing out money directly, Perry took the time to engage with the TSA employees, expressing his gratitude for their work, as reported by local news.
A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security clarified that TSA officers are not allowed to receive cash or gift cards at screening areas. However, Aaron Barker, president of Georgia AFGE Local 554, mentioned that the TSA Employees Union doesn’t have the same limitations, encouraging anyone interested in donating to look up their local union for appropriate avenues to offer support.
Meanwhile, assistance for TSA employees continues, with local staff providing help at the airport, and a nearby restaurant offering lunch, according to reports.
In a related note, President Donald Trump announced plans to sign an emergency order aimed at compensating TSA workers, pointing the finger at Democrats for the ongoing crisis. He stated, “I will sign an order directing Secretary of Homeland Security Mark Wayne Mullin to immediately pay TSA employees to address this emergency.” The president acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained determined, saying, “It won’t be easy, but we’ll try!”
