Youth Abortion Support Doula Training
A new initiative is providing abortion support doula training for participants as young as 14. This program targets individuals aged 14 to 24, introducing them to essential skills, resources, and tools relevant to abortion support work. The training sessions will take place at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on November 15-16, 2025. Anyone interested in becoming an abortion doula, companion, or support person is encouraged to attend.
The event invitation emphasizes that while the focus is on youth-led abortion advocacy—particularly for high school and college students—participants will also learn about supporting their communities and continuing advocacy efforts beyond their educational institutions.
The Youth Abortion Support Collective (YouthASC), a national organization advocating for abortion access and operated by Advocates for Youth, is organizing the training. They also offer a six-week abortion support training resource, as mentioned on their website.
In addition to outlining the role of an “abortion doula,” defined by the International Reproductive Justice Organization, the invitation also includes plans to discuss practical support methods for both surgical and medication abortions. This includes organizing community efforts on campus to build support networks.
Advocates for Youth Mid-Atlantic is actively promoting this event, inviting young people in the Charlotte area to participate. The training is scheduled for both days from 10 AM to 5 PM.
A spokesperson from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte clarified that the event was planned and hosted by a registered student organization. They noted that the university serves as a space for a variety of events and discussions, adhering to relevant policies and laws. Moreover, the university maintains a neutral stance regarding the various viewpoints expressed by its over 450 registered student organizations.
