The University Huskies found themselves in a tough situation during the second half facing the Duke Blue Devils. Yet, thanks to some crucial three-pointers from Braylon Mullins and impressive scoring by Taris Reed Jr., they pulled off a stunning come-from-behind victory, advancing to the Final Four.
With less than seven seconds on the clock, the Huskies’ defense pressured the Blue Devils into mistakes. A pass from Kayden Boozer was deflected, and right into Mullins’ hands.
The freshman, standing well beyond the three-point line, launched the ball and, sure enough, it went in. The Huskies completed their 19-point comeback, and their bench erupted in celebration.
Throughout the game, UW showcased its ability to take the lead multiple times, holding an advantage for about half of the second period. Reed had a standout performance, scoring 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting, along with nine rebounds, and hitting 6 of 9 free throws.
Duke took a three-point lead with just 28 seconds remaining. UW’s Cyrus Demaree Jr. was fouled while shooting and went to the line, making one of two free throws. The successful shot allowed UConn to set up a press defense, forcing another turnover.
In the first half, the Huskies were behind 44-29, but they turned it around to outscore Duke 44-28 in the second half.
Cameron Boozer led Duke’s offense, finishing with 27 points and eight rebounds.
The Huskies are now headed to the Final Four for the third consecutive time. They’re aiming to reclaim the national championship title after winning twice in the past three years. In the upcoming Final Four, UW will compete against Illinois, while Michigan will face Arizona State.
