John Lynch Addresses Injury Concerns Linked to Electrical Substation
John Lynch, the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers, has actively dismissed the speculation that injuries within the team could be connected to an electrical substation near Levi’s Stadium. This idea gained traction on social media during the 2025 season, even though the 49ers have been playing at Levi’s Stadium since 2014 and have utilized a practice facility next to an electrical substation since 1989.
George Kittle, a key player for the Niners, mentioned earlier this year that he didn’t find the rumors credible but still wanted some clarity on the issue.
During an NFL owners meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, Lynch revealed that the organization had scientists investigate the facility for any potential hazards. He referred to the findings as “a big nothing burger,” assuring reporters that the workplace is safe and normal. “We’re in a safe workplace…it’s a normal gym. We’re safe, we’re healthy, and we feel really good about it,” he added.
Lynch emphasized the importance of addressing such concerns, stating, “It was critical to examine this rather than ignore it. It’s about the well-being of our players, coaches, staff, and everyone involved.” The 49ers conducted a study that indicated players and staff experience electromagnetic environments similar to those in gyms and typical workplaces.
Despite this reassurance, the team still faces challenges regarding injuries, as several players—including Kittle—missed significant time due to various health issues last season. The substation theory appears to have been laid to rest, but the injury situation remains an ongoing concern for the 49ers as they move forward.
