Spring Break Parties Lead to Over 140 Arrests in Alabama
More than 140 people were detained in an Alabama beach town following two chaotic spring break gatherings. Notably, one incident culminated in a police officer getting beer poured over his head.
The events took place around 11 p.m. on Thursday, March 26. Officers from the Gulf Shores Police Department responded to a call about a large crowd and loud music at a home on West Beach Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered over 100 minors inside.
According to Detective Karl Wittstruck, more than 113 individuals were found within the residence. “Our officers attended the scene and conducted an investigation,” he stated.
During the investigation, someone reportedly threw a beer over one of the officers, drenching his uniform. Wittstruck explained, “While we were trying to figure out who was renting the property, an unknown person on the balcony above the officers tried to pour beer over them, making one of the officers wet.”
Ultimately, three different agencies collaborated to arrest 109 individuals for suspected underage drinking at the party. Additionally, at least one person faced charges for conspiracy.
Just a day earlier, another party just down the street had resulted in 33 arrests, which was also reported by the Gulf Shores Police Department. This previous incident occurred on Wednesday, March 25, around 11 p.m. Officers had responded to reports of a large gathering in the 1300 block of West Beach Boulevard.
Upon their arrival, police found numerous underage individuals and a significant amount of alcohol in the house. They arrested 31 youths for underage alcohol possession, with one individual charged with conspiracy and another for resisting arrest. Interestingly, this party had already drawn attention from law enforcement two days prior, leading to a warning after police observed about 70 people inside.
In light of these incidents, Alabama officials aim to convey a stern message to spring breakers, affirming a “zero tolerance” approach to unacceptable conduct on the coast.
Gulf Shores Police stated, “Our message remains the same: everyone is welcome to enjoy our beautiful beaches and Gulf Shores atmosphere. However, we, along with our communities and law enforcement, will uphold a zero-tolerance stance against any behavior that disrupts others’ enjoyment.”
The Gulf Shores Police Department had not responded to requests for further comment at the time of reporting.
