Vacation Rental Owner Accused of Secretly Filming Guests

A vacation rental owner in California is facing serious allegations of secretly recording his tenants, which included young children, and possessing disturbing items in his home.

The suspect, 44-year-old Christian Palmere Edwards, reportedly filmed guests living on the third floor of his property in Oakhurst “through the blinds and from inside.” It has been noted that the rental is situated near Yosemite National Park.

Authorities acted on multiple reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Madera County Sheriff’s deputies executed search warrants and uncovered that Edwards had taken photographs of about 10 to 15 women and at least one child, as young as six, without clothing.

In a statement released on March 23, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office revealed that officers found over 4,000 digital files containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) at a residence on Granite Butte Way.

Edwards has been arrested and is currently in the Madera County Jail, facing several felony charges linked to the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material. Investigators are continuing their work, and there may be further charges related to invasion of privacy.

Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue expressed concerns about the case, pointing out that investigators also discovered new children’s underwear at the scene. “It suggests an escalation, indicating that he might have a propensity to become a hands-on criminal,” he mentioned.

A neighbor, who preferred to remain unnamed, shared with ABC 6 that they believe the community is now safe since Edwards is in custody. Another local resident, Anthony Polfer, added that they were unaware of any potential danger before this incident.

Edwards has entered a not-guilty plea regarding the charges related to child sexual abuse material. Reports indicate that a realistic-looking child sex doll was also found at Edwards’ residence, which raised further concerns about his intentions.

Madera County District Attorney Sally Moreno commented on the disturbing nature of the findings, stating that it suggests Edwards may be transitioning from viewing illicit material to potentially harming actual children.

It’s been reported that Edwards operates as an Airbnb host. Airbnb itself has faced legal issues in the past, with a case emerging in 2025 involving a guest who was allegedly recorded without their knowledge while using a rental’s bathroom.

According to local news, police believe Edwards was viewing a video of a naked woman right before his arrest. A judge has since reduced his bail from $225,000 to $75,000. Sheriff Pogue remarked that if convicted, Edwards could serve two to three years in prison, although he might only spend half that time in state prison, which some find quite shocking given the severity of the allegations.
