Tiger Woods Arrested After Rollover Crash in Florida

On Friday, Tiger Woods, a 15-time major champion, was taken into custody in Florida following a rollover accident where prescription opioids were discovered in his pocket, according to court documents.

The five-time Masters winner was arrested in the afternoon, facing charges for DUI causing property damage and refusing to take a blood alcohol test after allegedly crashing into another vehicle while impaired.

Deputies from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office observed several signs of impairment, noting that Woods was sweating heavily and appeared lethargic, as detailed in an arrest affidavit.

When questioned, Woods mentioned he was distracted just before the crash. He claimed he looked at his phone and adjusted the radio, failing to notice the car ahead of him was slowing down.

Due to suspicions of his condition, law enforcement conducted field sobriety tests. During the assessment, Woods was asked to take off his glasses. The deputy reported that Woods’ eyes were bloodshot and extremely dilated.

Upon searching Woods, authorities found two white pills in his left pants pocket, which were later identified as hydrocodone, a prescription painkiller.

Woods had previously informed law enforcement that he had undergone seven back surgeries and over twenty surgeries on his legs. He indicated he was taking multiple prescription medications at the time.

At the jail, Woods submitted to a breathalyzer test, which showed a result of 0.00. However, he declined to provide a urine sample, which led to additional charges being filed.

This arrest marks Woods’ second DUI incident within the last decade. In 2017, he was arrested on Jupiter Island for taking prescription medications and falling asleep while driving at 3 a.m.

In 2021, Woods faced a serious accident that resulted in significant leg injuries, sidelining him from competitive golf for an entire year.
