Trump Calls for Immigration Funding Bill by June 1

President Trump is urging Congress to create a reconciliation bill by June 1 that secures funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune have stated their support for the president’s request.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Democratic leaders and emphasized the urgency of his request, saying:

“Unlike Republicans, Democrats want to defund the police, Border Patrol, and all immigration authorities. They want to allow criminals, psychopaths, and lunatics from all over the world to enter our country completely unsupervised and unchecked, putting the American people at grave risk.”

“That’s why we will work closely with House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune to fund our incredible ICE and Border Patrol agents through a process that doesn’t require votes from radical left Democrats… Hopefully everyone will vote Republican in the midterm elections.”

He noted that resources from what he called the “One Big Beautiful Bill” would maintain compensation for ICE and CBP personnel in the meantime.

In his message, he reassured that immigration enforcement would persist, asserting that the nation’s borders would be secured against various criminal elements.

Trump also urged Americans to consider the rise in illegal immigration that he attributes to the policies of former President Biden and Congressional Democrats.

“These radical, weak, and incompetent Democrats have made it clear that if they return to power, they will never again fund border security or immigration enforcement,” he expressed.

In conclusion of their joint statement, Thune and Johnson affirmed their commitment to following Trump’s directive.
