The cause of death for Grammy-winning producer Sidney “Omen” Brown has been disclosed, following his passing six months ago in his East Harlem apartment.
The 49-year-old producer, known for his work with artists like Drake, Beyoncé, and Lil Wayne, was confirmed to have died of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, according to a coroner.
This condition typically involves the buildup of plaque in the arteries, narrowing them and potentially leading to serious health issues like heart attacks.
Brown was discovered in his apartment on September 13, 2025, by family members who went to check on him.
Concerns arose when he missed a scheduled DJ shift at Barawine Harlem, where he had been a prominent figure for over ten years.
At the time, the city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner stated that more investigation was needed to determine the cause and manner of death, leaving his family seeking clarity.
His sister, Nicole Iris Brown, expressed that his death was unexpected, as he seemed healthy and showed no signs of illness. “He was generally healthy, so we don’t know that he was sick, so this is completely out of the blue,” she noted.
Brown’s contributions extended beyond music; he was passionate about mentoring younger artists and helping them establish their careers. He was someone who valued talent over everything else.
A well-known figure in both the music industry and the local nightlife, Barawine Harlem honored him as a dear friend, acknowledging the unique talent he brought to the venue.
Brown, who emerged in the 1990s as a producer for artists like Mýa and Fabolous, gained recognition with his Grammy-winning project for Ludacris in 2006.
He continued to collaborate with heavyweights in the industry, co-producing notable tracks like Drake’s “Shut It Down” and Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single.”
In 2013, he co-wrote and co-produced “Mine” for Beyoncé, featuring Drake, showcasing his wide-ranging influence in music.
Remembered not only for his talent but also for his generous spirit, Brown leaves behind loved ones who are still grappling with the shock of his untimely death.
