Gateway Church Leader Freed From Oklahoma Jail – Guest Commentary

11 People Charged in Scheme to Obtain Citizenship

Scandal Erupts at Gateway Church

Founded by Robert Morris, Gateway Church has been a significant presence in Texas, helping individuals connect with God and nurture their faith. However, recent events have seriously shaken the church’s reputation.

In October 2025, Morris, who is the founder of the megachurch, admitted guilt to charges of child sexual abuse and received a six-month prison sentence. The case began with allegations from 55-year-old Cindy Kremischer, who reported being abused by a pastor at the tender age of 12 during the 1980s. Kremischer aims to use her experience to empower others to break free from shame and voice their stories.

Morris confessed to five counts of engaging in lewd acts with a minor and accepted a 10-year suspended sentence, which includes registering as a sex offender. Remarkably, he was released from an Oklahoma jail just six months later, on March 30, 2026.

As reported, Morris’s probation will now transfer to Texas, where he will complete the remainder of his sentence. Furthermore, as part of his plea deal, he has agreed to pay Kremischer $270,000, compensation related to her abuse in childhood.

Upon learning of his release, Kremischer expressed her appreciation for the truth finally surfacing. She finds a sense of purpose in her suffering, stating, “I will continue to advocate for truth, justice, and all survivors who are still trying to speak out.”

In a public statement, Morris reflected on the damage caused to his church, family, and faith. He shared, “Thinking back, it’s been challenging to confront this resolution legally. However, spending time in that cell allowed me to see that what the Klemishers did was an act of integrity, giving me a much-needed perspective—one that was a true reckoning, both in my heart and in the eyes of the law.”

After the revelations came to light, Morris resigned from Gateway Church in 2024. Nevertheless, the church remains focused on continuing its mission and recovering from these troubling events.
