Florida Man Arrested After Human Remains Found in Suitcases

A man from Florida has been apprehended following the discovery of human remains inside two suitcases in a secluded area, according to officials.

Lucas Sander Jones, 19, hailing from Indialantic, faced initial charges of tampering with evidence, abuse of a human body, and improper disposal of a corpse, as logged in the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office records.

After posting a $7,500 bond, he was released but was later rearrested and is currently held without bail on a second-degree murder charge.

The investigation commenced on March 28 in Palm Bay, when officers responded to a call about an underdeveloped property, colloquially known as “The Compound.”

Upon arrival, law enforcement noticed a vulture circling overhead and discovered a black suitcase left behind.

Inside, they found human remains.

Nearby, a second suitcase containing additional remains was located. Investigators quickly identified Jones as a person of interest when they found an Amazon package with his name and address in one of the discarded suitcases.

A search warrant was executed at Jones’ residence, where police contacted both him and his girlfriend.

Authorities noted that Jones had visible injuries; however, he opted not to engage with investigators.

During the search, blood stains and what seemed to be a knife were discovered in the suitcase.

Identifying the Victim

As of now, authorities have not disclosed the identity of the remains. Yet, it has been reported that the body is likely connected to 28-year-old Corey Lee Daniel, who was reported missing on March 22.

Jones’ girlfriend informed police that the last time she saw Daniel was on March 20, when she allegedly found him unconscious at Jones’ home, based on the affidavit.

She further stated that Jones later claimed Daniel had left the house. The following day, she recalled Jones asking her to drive to the compound, where she saw him discarding containers and various items.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue their efforts to identify the victim. Jones’ arraignment is set for April 21.
