New Orleans Roblox Programmer Charged with 197 New Counts in Child Abuse Case

Louisiana Roblox Developer Taken Into Custody on 40 Child Porn Charges; Illegal Sex Doll Discovered

New Orleans Man Faces Additional Charges in Child Abuse Case

A man from New Orleans, already facing 40 counts related to possession of child sexual abuse materials, is now facing even more serious allegations. According to newly filed court documents, Jamie Bourne, 30, is hit with an additional 195 counts for possessing child sexual abuse material involving minors under 13. He also faces two counts related to the abuse of an animal.

On Thursday, Bourne made his initial court appearance before Judge Juana M. Lambard in New Orleans Criminal District Court. These new charges emerged from evidence gathered during his earlier arrest this month. Currently, he is being held on a bond of $345,000—this is in addition to the bond for his previous charges.

Bourne’s initial arrest was carried out by special agents from Homeland Security Investigations and the Louisiana State Police. They charged him with possession of child sexual abuse materials, among other offenses. Interestingly, during the investigation, Bourne identified himself as a programmer for the popular online game, Roblox.

His troubles began during a routine home visit by probation officers. Bourne had been on probation after a 2023 conviction for firing a gun into an occupied tent and throwing a smoke grenade. When officers visited, they reportedly noticed a child-sized sex doll in his bedroom. When questioned about it, Bourne remarked that “he was very lonely.” This sparked further investigation, leading to the discovery of children’s clothing, used and unused condoms, and electronic devices containing child sexual abuse materials.

Further inquiries revealed that Bourne was a contributor to Roblox, a platform described as a place where users can explore, create, and share games. Roblox clarified to a news outlet that Bourne was never an employee but rather a contributor who allowed others to build experiences on the platform. The company promptly banned his account and disabled his contributions in line with their conduct policies.

Roblox, which boasts over 151.5 million daily active users—many of whom are under 17—has faced scrutiny as several U.S. states, including Louisiana, filed lawsuits alleging that the platform lacks adequate measures to protect children from sexual predators. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced that these lawsuits argue Roblox fails to enforce minimum age requirements, allowing children to evade age restrictions and putting them at risk.

Murrill criticized Roblox for hosting games that seem benign but can contain explicit content and simulated sexual acts, some even involving children. After completing a forensic examination of devices seized during the investigation, Bourne faced 40 counts regarding possession of child sexual abuse objects and was held on a bail of $50,000 for each charge.

Under Louisiana law, anyone convicted of possessing child sexual abuse materials could face hefty fines and a substantial prison sentence. Depending on the crime’s nature, penalties range significantly for possession, trafficking, and importation of child sex dolls, with maximum sentences soaring to years in prison and fines up to $20,000.
