Deputies break Tiger Woods' back windshield after asking to hold onto treasured item, bodycam reveals

Last Friday, when Tiger Woods crashed his car, his golf clubs were likely his most prized possession tucked away in the trunk.

The incident caused his 2025 Range Rover to tip onto the driver’s side, leading to an arrest for suspected drunk driving close to two hours later.

Authorities interviewed Woods’ manager, Rob McNamara, who emphasized the clubs’ importance. “It’s worth more than my house,” the deputy replied, while McNamara added, “The putter is worth more than all our houses.”

Woods mentioned that all he really needed was a “stick” to win, referring specifically to his putter and noting that it had helped him secure 14 majors. Interestingly, he used a different putter at the 1997 Masters, where he won by a staggering 12 strokes.

Footage captured the sheriff informing a tow truck driver about “high-value items” belonging to a “celebrity” in the trunk, yet they were unable to access it due to damage from the crash. Local firefighters had to break the rear windshield to retrieve the clubs, which were stored in a Monster Energy bag, while the driver was seen wearing Woods’ famous tiger head cover.

McNamara even found a red shirt that Woods wears on Sundays and jokingly remarked that it was worth “more than one of his paychecks.”

After failing a field sobriety test, which indicated that Woods was “lethargic,” he was taken into custody. Although he recorded a “triple zero” on a breathalyzer, he didn’t complete a urine test, which led to additional charges.

Police discovered two pills identified as hydrocodone, a common prescription painkiller. Woods had informed the officers that he had undergone seven surgeries on his back and over 20 on his legs, admitting he was taking several prescriptions.

In 2021, a serious accident had left him with significant leg injuries, sidelining him from golf for a year. He had initially hoped to compete in the Masters but recently announced on social media that he would be stepping back to focus on medical treatment.

Woods shared, “I understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I’m taking time away to receive treatment and prioritize my health. It’s essential for my ongoing recovery.” He expressed a commitment to focus on returning stronger, asking for privacy for himself and his loved ones during this time.
